Summit Airworks Heating and Air professionals would like to remind clients that it is the time of year we will be switching energy sources, from our cooling systems to our heating systems. There are a few things to look out for during this time, aside from filter changing and proper maintenance. During the summer months we have our AC unit running frequently and the heating unit will sit for months at a time with out powering on. With our Winter season quickly approaching us, we would like to remind clients of something they will experience when turning on the heating unit for the first time. When turning on a heating unit, rather it be gas or electric, the first few times clients may smell a very strange odor. Our service department often receives calls concerning this smell. Summit Airworks would like to advise you not to worry, it is not leaking or running inefficiently.
When you fire up the heater after it has been sitting idle for months at a time it is completely normal for a strange odor to come through the venting systems. The smell is simply dust burning off of the HVAC unit, so please don’t worry about this. It will occur the first few times the unit is used. If the smell does not subside after a few uses please do give Summit Airworks a call.
